 Millions of people living in the northeast United States and parts of Canada woke up to the aftermath of the deadly super storm sandy..

Already, New York City is taking stock of the damage sustained overnight, after Sandy brought a nearly four-metre surge of seawater crashing ashore.

The city's tunnels and underground electrical systems were inundated, and the chairman of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority said the famous subway system, which remains closed, had suffered the worst damage in its 108-year history.
